| | Wide Tarahumara Indian Bowl Platter 22"x12" -CLEARANCEThis is a unique Tarahumara dough bowl platter which is wider than the common narrow bowls that we see around the copper canyon, in the small villages.
Southwestern wooden dough bowls are authentic Native American style bowls made by the Tarahumara Indians. Wooden Indian style dough bowls or trenchers are carved by hand from native yellow pine and begin as a piece of a downed tree trunk. Indian log bowls are made by splitting the trunk in half lengthwise then rough cut with an ax. The carved wooden dough bowls are shaped and further worked with a machete or large knife.
These traditional southwest Indian bowls have a round bottom and a rustic finish with uneven surfaces, rough edges, worm holes and surface cracks. Everything that makes for a great looking rustic bowl. They sometimes don't sit straight and may not be suitable for food preparation in unfinished or stained condition. This particular bowl has one edge that is deteriorated from worm holes when it was a tree.
Dough bowls are used by the Tarahumara Indian people but are sold for decoration. Bowls or dough trays are used to catch corn meal as it is ground with a stone.
This beautiful bowl is on clearance because it is the only one we have left.
The rustic character of primitive unfinished bowls, stained dough bowls add a sense of rustic beauty to create a natural atmosphere for log homes, cabins and cottages as well as any ranch or country decor. 22" long, 12" wide
