Description
This charming basket is the exceptional hand work of the Native Tarahumara (Raramuri) Indians from the Sierra Madre region of Mexico. Made in the traditional fashion, using leaves from the Yucca tree, these baskets serve many functions in a traditional Tarahumara household.
The best basket maker uses only her hands and teeth to fashion the basket, although the leaves are sometimes run across a stone to dull their sharp edges before they are worked. A Tarahumara basket may be used to store corn, beans or a number of other things. As the floors of most Tarahumara homes are dirt, native baskets help keep personal items organized and clean.
This basket is perfect for southwest or western kitchen decor, to display in any room shelf or office desk, and also makes a great gift.
Measures approximately 5.5" wide and 5.75" tall. Actual basket shown.
