This is a beautifully painted, southwestern day of the dead skull. Handcrafted in Mexico, this ceramic skull is one of the favorites among day of the dead memorabilia. So popular in the southwestern United States, this classic skull reflects a rich culture begun by the ancient Aztecs.

Each year on November 2nd, Mexican families celebrate their departed relatives by visiting their graves. They bring colorful decorations, food and drink. Skulls are used as traditional decorations to celebrate the day. This is a custom that began with the Aztecs using real skulls. Today, they are beautifully hand painted pottery art which many also use as southwest decor.
