This is a beautiful Southwestern Day of the Dead lantern skull. Handcrafted in Mexico, this skull is hand painted ceramic, one of the favorites among day of the dead memorabilia. So popular in the southwestern United States, this is a classic painted skull that reflects a rich culture begun by the ancient Aztecs.
Each year on November 2nd, Mexican families celebrate the dead relatives by visiting their graves with colorful decorations, food and drink. Skulls are used as traditional decorations to celebrate the day. A custom that began with the Aztecs using real skulls. Today, they are beautiful hand painted pottery art also used for southwest decor.
This skull features a place for a tea-light candle, and carved holes to let the light shine through. It is sure to look just as lovely during the day, as it does at night.
