This is an exceptional Southwestern hand woven wool Otavalo Indian rug, tapestry. This southwest style rug is a genuine hand woven wool rug by the famous Otavalan Indians and is perfect for a wall hanging tapestry. The Otavalan Indian people have been weaving for generations and the rugs or tapestries have taken the name of the town where the are created.

This weaving was created in Equador at he famous market town of Otavalo. Each week people travel from across the county and from around the world to experience th market. Families of weavers display their hand woven works of art and wool rugs are a prized possession. The designs they use are similar to Navajo rugs.

The pattern used in this tapestry was a custom request based on the authentic Navajo designs from the Randolph Hurst collection. The Otavalo with their great skill and determination have reproduced the original Navajo patterns from last century. Many o these patterns are no longer even seen except in museums and private collections. The Otavalo hand down their experience from generation to generation through the families just as the Native American weavers do.
