Product Description

This is a genuine Polynesian drum from Kialua-Kona on the big Island of Hawaii. Created by a Native drum maker, the cover is real rawhide and the drum core is a hollowed out coconut shell. This traditional style pahu niu, drum, is used during ceremonies by tying it to the leg above the knee. While the drummer kneels or sits the drum is played with a beater of woven and dried tea tree leaves or a small stick. If you have ever seen Polynesian ceremonies or a Luau, you would have seen this drum used during the dancing. Picture is representative, drums measure the size of half a coconut, about 6" wide, 4" tall.
