| | Large Tarahumara Indian Pottery Lamp & Rawhide Shade -26"This Tarahumara Indian pottery vase makes a unique southwestern lamp. Perfect as a desk or table lamp for southwest lighting, it is made by hand from authentic Tarahumara Indian earthen clay pottery. This clay lamp comes from deep within the Sierra Madre and is also a perfect accent for western lighting or decor. Decorated with real rawhide, the result is a charming, one-of-a-kind rustic lamp. The unique tri-pod base is fashioned from pine branches, wrought iron and rawhide lace. The geniune lamp's rawhide shade is also hand stretched and stitched with matching leather.
The natural shade is a light tan/cream color, perfect for rustic chic lodge style, or country ranch and cabin decor. It was created by stretching premium rawhide around a sturdy metal frame. The skilled mountain people have years of experience and carefully trim and lace the shade. The hand stitching adds a sense of rustic beauty and when the lamp is turned on, the shade’s translucent character comes to life. The shade allows light to emanate from within to creat a wonderfully natural atmosphere. Because heat can crack rawhide, there is no warranty on shade life. Condition regularly for best results.
Tarahumara pottery is artfully made by the age-old coil method. Rolls of natural clay are painstakingly coiled to form the shape of the vessel and polished with a smooth piece of wood. The Firing takes place in an open pit fire adding additional character through colorization changes. Some pieces will even have scorch marks from the fire.
Lamp @26" tall, Shade 20" dia.
