How To Select A Southwest Rug, Western Runner or Area Rug

Southwest and western hand woven wool rugs make one of the single most important impacts on a room as you enter because area rugs catch your attention. Because the rugs and runners have such an impact on design it is important to consider cafefully what your overall look will be in your home. For example brightly colored southwest style or darker subdued western style rugs.

Area rugs or throw rugs as they are also known are available in many sizes and nearly every color you could need. Which pattern and color you use can depend not only on what you like but how it looks. Southwestern rugs as well as western rugs are traditionally red grey and black with white and the theme can be carried from room to room if you choose by the use of similar colors and patterns. One popular alternative is to vary the pattterns between rooms but use the same basic color groups for a continuity throughout.

With modern advances in synthetic yarns and blends many weavers are offering lower quality products. But it is still possible to use the fabulous wand woven rugs made of beautiful wool without having to pay a lot for them.

There is no reason to believe that machine made rugs are better or the only solution for your rug needs. Handwoven rugs made with real wool are rich and attractive. Actually southwest woven rugs look equally nice on the wall because they are of tapestry quality and offer a wide choice of styles and patterns.

One thing about the quality of southwest rugs is that they have a knack for fitting in to most any type of room. Rustic elegence is a perfect way to describe their affect on their surrounding. Equally at home with rough western wooden furniture or highly refined quality furnishings, the craftsmanship and style of hand woven rugs and wall hangings makes a room comfortable.

Hand made area rugs have long set the standard for western ranch houses and southwest decorating since the early designs of Navajo weavings made their way into frontier homes. The look and feel of handwoven rugs is far superior. The best quality handmade rugs use very use high quality wool for construction, not wool blends because wool lasts much longer can stand up to use. Before you decide on a new area rug, treat yourself to the rich look of what have come to be known as southwest rugs.
