Native American hoop drums of the famous Tarahumara Indians are fashioned by hand. The Tarahumara Indians are said to be North Americas most primitive people, inhabiting caves and cliff dwellings.
Hoop drums are Native American hand drums made with a piece of native yellow pine bent into the shape of the drum. Rawhide is stretched over both sides, of the drum ring to form a sturdy hand drum. Hoop drums, are held vertically by a rawhide handle on the lacing. This is the largest drum made by the Tarahumara.
