Native American Buffalo Hide Drum -Kiowa 20"

A true Native American hand drum is a work of art that is not only something rare but wonderful to own and play. This beautiful hand drum is an authentic Native made drum that uses natural buffalo hide for the drum head and lacing. Many non Natives also make drums that can be seen online but this genuine American Indian drum is made by a real Kiowa drum maker. It is becoming harder to find Native handcrafts that are created in the traditional ways including prayers during the creation of a hand drum.

This Indian hand drum is made by hand using strong durable buffalo skin rawhide. The maker carefully stretched and hand scraped the raw hide, then cut the head and lacing. Buffalo rawhide is extremely strong requiring an equally strong hoop. This high quality hand drum uses a laminate ply hoop, that is very nice.

Buffalo rawhide exerts tremendous pressure and a lessor hoop would not be able to provide the strength to create the amazing sound desired. The head of the drum is laced to one side of the frame hoop using a traditional Lakota style pattern forming a hand hold on the back for drumming. This design is perfect for drumming circles, sweat lodges and meditation. The 20" diameter is a very popular size because it works well for both standing and sitting.

Native Americans often decorate their drums and this buffalo hide hand drum affords the owner the opportunity to add their own personality. The rawhide can be painted with earthen dyes as well as modern artist oil or acrylic paints. A perfect canvas for art projects, you can also add beads, feathers or fur.
